Do You Offer Holiday Light Takedown Without a New Install?

Holiday light takedown service without a new install: yes, we offer standalone takedown for lights already on your home, even if someone else installed them.

Ladder and holiday light strands being removed from a home roofline

Yes, we offer a holiday light takedown service without requiring a new install alongside it. Plenty of homeowners just want the lights off the roofline safely once the season ends, whether they installed them, hired someone else, or inherited a display from the previous owner.

This comes up more than you might expect, especially with homeowners who moved into a house with lights already up, or who are ready to stop climbing a ladder every January to pull down cold, stiff strands themselves.

This post covers how standalone takedown works, what it includes, and when it makes sense compared to bundling it with a new install for next season.

Who typically books takedown-only service

A lot of our takedown-only calls come from homeowners who are simply done climbing a ladder in cold weather to pull lights down themselves. Others recently bought a home with holiday lighting still on the roofline from the previous owner and have no interest in maintaining it.

Some homeowners hired a different company for install but prefer our takedown scheduling, or installed the lights themselves at the start of the season and want the removal handled professionally.

Whatever the reason, we do not require that we installed the lighting in order to take it down.

What the service includes

Takedown covers removing light strands, clips, and any extension cords or connectors used for the display, then leaving your roofline and gutters clear. We are careful with clips designed to grip fascia or gutters, since some types can leave marks if pulled carelessly.

If lights are tangled in trees or shrubs rather than just along the roofline, let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly, since that adds time compared to a straightforward roofline takedown.

We do not typically handle storage of the lights themselves as part of this service, so plan on having a bin or storage plan ready for what comes down.

  • Roofline and gutter light strand removal
  • Clip removal without damaging fascia or gutters where reasonably possible
  • Extension cord and connector removal
  • Tree-wrapped or shrub lighting removal (mention this when booking)

When takedown-only jobs get scheduled

Standalone takedown is generally scheduled in a window after the holidays, once you are ready for the lights to come down. We coordinate a specific date with you rather than showing up on a set calendar date regardless of weather.

Winter weather, particularly ice and snow on the roof, can affect scheduling the same way it affects install timing, so some flexibility helps.

If you know you want takedown but are not sure of an exact date yet, reaching out early still helps us plan our route for the season.

Inherited holiday lighting from a previous homeowner

This is one of the more common takedown-only scenarios we see. New homeowners move in during fall or winter, find a full holiday lighting setup already installed, and want it removed without necessarily replacing it right away.

We can take down an inherited display regardless of who installed it or what condition it is in, and give you an honest read on whether any of it is worth keeping for next year.

If you do want a new setup going forward, that is a separate conversation and not a requirement of the takedown itself.

Should you bundle takedown with a new install for next year

Bundling takedown with a fresh install the following season is convenient since it puts both jobs on our schedule at once, but it is entirely optional. Plenty of homeowners book takedown-only one year and decide later whether to book an install for the next season.

If you are also weighing whether to switch from traditional lighting to something like permanent Jellyfish lighting, takedown of the old traditional display is a natural point to have that conversation.

There is no pressure to commit to next year's plans just to get this year's lights down safely.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to have installed the lights to take them down?

No. We offer standalone takedown regardless of who installed the original display.

Do you store the lights after removing them?

No, storage is not part of the standard takedown service. Have a bin or storage plan ready for what comes down.

Can you take down lights that are wrapped in trees or shrubs, not just the roofline?

Yes, mention this when booking so we can plan the extra time it takes compared to a straightforward roofline takedown.

Do I have to book a new install to get takedown service?

No, takedown-only is a complete standalone service with no requirement to book a new install for the next season.

The bottom line

  • Standalone takedown is available whether or not we installed the original lighting.
  • Service covers strand, clip, and cord removal from the roofline and gutters.
  • Tree or shrub-wrapped lighting takedown should be mentioned when booking.
  • Inherited displays from a previous homeowner are a common and easy fit for this service.
  • Bundling with a future install is optional, not a requirement.
