Plantings and beds designed for the actual conditions of your Ann Arbor lot.
Sun exposure, drainage, mature tree canopy, and how you use the yard all shape the plan. We design plantings and hardscape that flatter your architecture and hold up through Ann Arbor seasons, not a template pulled off Pinterest.
Good landscape design starts on the property, not on a screen. We walk the site, look at sun exposure, drainage patterns, existing plantings, soil, mature-tree canopy, prevailing wind, and, most importantly, how you actually use the yard. Then we design plantings and beds that will thrive there and grow into what you want over time.
We bring generational experience with local plant material plus formal horticulture training. That combination is what separates a design that looks great in year one and terrible in year three from one that gets better as it matures. A lot of the pretty designs you see online are peak-of-install renderings. Ours are drawn for year five.
Every design considers structure first (evergreens and larger shrubs that hold the eye all year), then seasonal color layers (perennials, ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs), then finishing details (groundcover, bed edging, hardscape). Great designs read as intentional in every month, not just June.
If your property already has landscape lighting or you're planning permanent LED, the design accounts for it from day one, placement of fixtures, wire runs, and which plantings will be lit at night vs. which read only in daylight.
Every design starts with a property walk. Sun, drainage, soil, and mature canopy all shape what will thrive. Never designed from a satellite image.
Native and climate-appropriate plantings chosen to grow into the design, not to look right only on install day.
Evergreens, ornamental grasses, and structural shrubs so the property reads intentional in winter, not just spring and summer.
Bed shapes and borders designed around sightlines and how you move through the yard, not drawn as generic curves.
If you have or plan permanent LED or landscape lighting, the design is planned around it from day one.
Walkways, patios, and walls designed together with plantings so they don't fight each other.
Plant material sourced from regional growers so what we install actually survives the first winter here, not something trucked in from a warmer zone.
Any tree or shrub that doesn't establish gets replaced in the first year at no cost.
Yes, plan-view drawings for larger projects; simpler on-site layouts for smaller ones. Full colored renderings available for a fee if you want them.
Yes, one-year warranty on trees and shrubs we install, provided they're watered per our care sheet.
Most of our design work is refresh and expansion, not blank-slate. We build on what's already thriving.
Yes, clearing tired, overgrown, or unhealthy plantings is usually the first step of any design install.
We coordinate with irrigation partners on new-system installs and can plan the design around an existing system.
Small refreshes are one day. Full-yard installs are typically 3–7 days depending on scope and hardscape.
Yes, we can plan a full design and install it in phases across multiple years to spread cost while keeping the end vision coherent.
